The significance of non-governmental organisations’ (NGOs) involvement in decision-making processes and the prioritisation of state-important projects were in focus at today’s meeting between the Prime Minister of Georgia and civil sector representatives.
The meeting took place at the Administration building of the Government of Georgia in capital Tbilisi and was attended by representatives from up to 20 local NGOs.
We want the governance to be even more transparent in Georgia and wish to increase the different groups’ involvement in the Government’s decision-making process,” said Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili.
We want to speak sincerely and openly over the issues that are of high importance for us, for the public,” adding NGO’s involvement in decision-making processes was "crucial”.
To make the dialogue more productive, Kvirikashvili informed the NGO representatives about the daily schedule of cabinet ministers. He stressed all ministers jointly discussed projects drafted by ministries on a daily basis and prioritised the ones that were most important.
The prioritisation is based on three criteria: the importance of the topic for the public, the existence of appropriate resources for implementing the projects and whether the projects are in line with the state strategy.”
We then select three to five projects from each ministry and the selection process will allegedly be finalised in one month’s time,” said Kvirikashvili.
He added after the prioritisation process was completed, the Government would hold a presentation and name the target projects for each ministry.
The PM said the priority projects would also be discussed with NGOs to ensure they were involved in the decision-making processes.
