Georgia hosts record number of tourists in July 2016

A record number of tourists visited Georgia in the first seven months of 2016, says head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration Giorgi Chogovadze.
Between January and July Georgia hosted 3,400,335 international visitors (tourists, transit, other), which was a 10.6 percent increase year-on-year (y/y).
This was slightly less than the amount of tourists who visited Georgia in the whole of 2015.
Of the 3,400,335 international visitors so far this year, 1,401,914 were tourists. This was an increase of 17.5 percent y/y.
Meanwhile in July 2016 alone, Georgia hosted 764,022 international visitors, which was 3.5 percent more y/y.
The number of tourists who spent more than 24 hours in Georgia last month was 390,234 or 15.8 percent more y/y.
Last month the most international visitors came from:
- Iran – 575 percent increase;
- Syria – 453 percent increase;
- India – 368 percent increase;
- Egypt – 263 percent increase;
- Saudi Arabia – 112 percent increase;
- Germany – 18 percent increase;
- Lithuania – 17 percent increase;
- Greece – 14 percent increase;
- United Kingdom – 12 percent increase.
In the first quarter (Q1) of 2016 money generated from international tourism exceeded $354.5 billion USD, which was 15.7 percent or $48 million GEL more y/y, said Chogovadze.
Georgia is fast becoming a hot tourist destination for visitors from all over the world.

Georgia’s reputation as a tourist hotspot is growing; the country hosted 20 percent more tourists in April 2016 than in April last year, official figures show.
More than one million international visitors have spent time in Georgia this year, injecting millions of dollars into the local economy.
More international visitors are coming to Georgia and last month was no exception.
Today the Ministry of Internal Affairs released data that showed 323,159 visitors came to Georgia in January 2016. This was 4.4 percent more compared to the same month of 2015.
Almost three million tourists have come to Georgia in 2015, and trends show visitor numbers are growing.
"International recognition of Georgia has increased and our country is becoming more popular among foreign tourists". These words were spoken by Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili when he led a Governmental meeting this morning.
More and more international tourists are coming to Georgia, and already this year more than four million foreign guests have enjoyed the sights and sounds Georgia has to offer.
Tourism is growing in Georgia and the country is reaping the benefits of billions of dollars coming into the local economy from international tourism.

Over six million international travellers have visited Georgia in 2016 – a 7.6 percent increase year-on-year. More specifically, 6,350,825 international travellers (tourists, transit, other) visited Georgia last year.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Nikos Kotzias discussed the possibility of introducing ferry traffic between Georgian and Greek ports. They said that Georgia-Greece relations are advancing to a level of strategic partnership.
