The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia (MFA) has today welcomed the international community’s efforts to develop a plan and adhere to obligations, leading to a lift of nuclear-related sanctions on Iran.
Global players have come together and developed a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) related to Iran’s nuclear programme.
The Georgian Ministry applauded the decision to implement the Action Plan based on a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), published on January 16, 2016.
The decision and the successful implementation of the agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear program represent an important step opening up new opportunities for the region and the entire world,” said the Georgian Ministry.
On July 14, 2015 China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States (US), the European Union (EU), and Iran reached the JCPOA deal to ensure that Iran’s nuclear program will be exclusively peaceful.
The JCPOA was adopted on October 18, 2015, which saw participants begin to take steps to implement their JCPOA commitments.
January 16, 2016 marked Implementation Day of the JCPOA.
The IAEA verified Iran had implemented its key nuclear-related measures described in the JCPOA.
As a result of Iran meeting its commitments, the US and the EU have lifted nuclear-related sanctions on Iran, as described in the JCPOA, announced the US Department of State.
