President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili was in Germany on official duties to discuss Georgia’s European future with German leaders.
In capital Berlin yesterday Margvelashvili met German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Germany’s top official said her country remained a strong supporter of Georgia’s democratic advancement, said the Georgian President’s Administration.
Georgia has and will continue to have very strong support from Germany,” President’s Foreign Secretary Tengiz Pkhaladze said after the meeting.
The two country leaders spoke about a range of issues such as Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic intentions, the successful reforms recently implemented and the future reforms planned, the situation in Georgia’s occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions and Georgian-German bilateral relations.
Pkhaladze noted Margvelashvili and Merkel provided concrete initiatives of how to better cooperate to develop the local economy and tourism sectors.
Margvelashvili arrived in Germany on June 29 for a two-day official visit. He has met several high officials and attended various events.

Afterwards, while evaluating his trip Margvelashvili said while in office he would continue to make significant efforts to deepen Georgia’s relations with Germany.
