PM: “Regional development is our major goal”

The Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikahsvili stated today that the Government would be particularly focused on development of Georgian regions.
The PM highlighted that the local population should be maximally involved in the decision-making process related to their lives.

In fact, we have different Georgia in the regions with different people, who have no sense that they are somehow involved in the decision-making process.”
Consequently, we will make a major focus on development of regions, accelerate regional projects and specify right priorities for them to maximally respond to current demands and challenges existing in the regions,” Kvirikashvili said.
The PM made the statement when meeting with the business sector representatives in capital Tbilisi.
The Georgian Government will continue to support Georgia’s high mountain regions to improve the infrastructure and conditions for those living there in a bid to reduce migration from rural areas to the city.
The Government of Georgia is making amendments to the State Property Law to encourage farmers to work the agricultural sector without facing financial obstacles.
People living in Georgia’s mountain areas will enjoy the first part of a benefits scheme on January 1, 2016 when the new mountain law comes into force.
Parliament of Georgia has adopted a new law to encourage people to live and work in the country’s mountainous regions.
Georgian villages inhabited by few people will receive more funding to help the villages’ develop.
Georgia has updated its list of high mountainous settlements, meaning that locals of six more villages will enjoy special financial benefits, which will help them improve their living conditions and develop local small and medium-sized business.
