PM Kvirikashvili speaks on tackling corruption during UK visit

Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili will focus on the importance of tackling corruption and providing an investment-friendly environment during his first official visit to the United Kingdom (UK).

Kvirikashvili's three-day visit, which began yesterday, will see him participate in the 2016 London Anti-Corruption Summit today.

The Summit will bring together world leaders, business and civil society to find solutions to corrupt practices and combat the culture of corruption in all facets of political activity.

Kvirikashvili spoke about the issues before departing for the Summit on Wednesday:

Georgia has made massive strides in the fight against corruption and our business environment is recognised as one of the freest in the world."

While abroad Georgia's PM will also hold meetings with top UK officials including Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond and Secretary of State for Defence Michael Fallon.

Corruption and Georgia's success at dealing with the problem will also be the talking point of Kvirikashvili's interview with The Guardian newspaper.

Accompanied by Georgian Government officials such as Minister of Justice Thea Tsulukiani, Kvirikashvili will later speak at the Royal Institute of International Affairs (also known as Chatham House) about Georgia's upcoming Parliamentary Elections.

Furthermore the Prime Minister is expected to meet Georgian diaspora at London's Georgian Orthodox Church.

Rounding off the visit, Georgia's PM will attend Georgia Investor Day celebrations in England's capital. Kvirikashvili will address the audience on thr investment opportunities, the welcoming business environment and economic reforms carried out in the country.

The event is organised by the Georgian National Investment Agency and the Embassy of Georgia to the UK together with other commercial groups.
