A container warehouse is being built near the Black Sea, in Georgia’s western Adjara region, to support the country’s economy and improve its function as a transit nation.

Local firm Iceberg Poti will spend 400,000 GEL (about $180,995/€157,480*) to build the new container warehouse near Poti.

At today’s Government meeting Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili praised the project, and said each container shipped via Georgia meant more jobs and better use of Georgia’s transit function.

Kvirikashvili said the number of containers being shipped via Georgia was increasing and there was growing demand for new logistics centres.

Georgia’s transit potential is being increasingly utilised. The growth of transit shipments via Georgian territory implies there are more employed people in Georgia, since there is a close correlation between the number of shipped containers and the prosperity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs),” Kvirikashvili said.

It is not clear when the new container warehouse will being operating.
