President of PACE Anne Brasseur visits Georgia

Georgia is gearing up to host a two-day official visit of the president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

PACE leader Anne Brasseur’s official visit will last from May 7-8, before she departs on May 9.

Today she will attend her first meeting in Tbilisi with the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, David Usupashvili, after which she will give a press statement.

Later, Brasseur will meet several Georgian high officials, including President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tamar Beruchashvili. Brasseur will also have meetings with representatives of different political groups.

"In addition, talks are scheduled with the Georgian delegation to PACE, the Chairperson of the Supreme Court, the Public Defender, and with representatives of civil society and the diplomatic and international community,” said the PACE website while presenting her agenda.

Finally, while in Georgia Brasseur will visit a settlement for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in Tserovani and the administrative boundary line at Khurvaleti.

She also will deliver a public speech to students at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.

Brasseur will leave Georgia on May 9.
