Wrestling European Championship: Georgians win 9 medals

Georgia’s Under 23 wrestling team are celebrating after winning nine medals at the European U23 Wrestling Championship.

The Georgian team returned home from Poland, the championship venue, with three gold, two silver and four bronze medals.

This result saw the Georgians rank second among all the nations who participated in the event.

Of the nine medals, five were won by the Georgian freestyle wrestlers while the remaining four went to the Georgian Greco-Roman wrestlers.

The freestyle winners were:

  • Zurab Erbotsonashvili (74kg) – gold medal;
  • Omar Gusoshvili (97kg) – gold medal;
  • Zurab Iakobishvili (65kg) – silver medal;
  • Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125kg) – silver medal;
  • Beka Bujiashvili (57kg) – bronze medal.

The medal winning Greco-Roman wrestlers were:

  • Lasha Gobadze (80kg) – gold medal;
  • Khvicha Tchitanava (59) – bronze medal;
  • Giorgi Davitaia (66kg) – bronze medal;
  • Kukuri Kirtskhalia (98kg) – bronze medal.
