Georgia has won one gold and one silver medal at the first day of the Cadet Wrestling World Championships in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Georgia’s Greco-Roman wrestler Aivengo Rikadze (63kg) was crowned world champion after he defeated Iranian, Ukrainian, Kazakh and Egyptian opponents during the tournament.
Weeks earlier Rikadze became European champion at the Junior Wrestling European Championships in Serbia.
Another Georgian Greco-Roman wrestler Joni Khetsuriani (54kg) won the silver medal in the same competition after he defeated American, Japanese and Armenian opponents but lost to a Ukrainian fighter in the final.
Last year Khetsuriani was crowned world champion in the 50kg weight category.
The Greco-Roman wrestling competition has ended but the freestyle competition will continue until August 30. Georgia has sent ten freestyle wrestlers to Sarajevo.
