Football fans across the globe are applauding a Georgian manager of a Turkish football club after he showed "real sportsmanship” when he told his players to allow the opposition to score.

Shota Arveladze, Georgian head coach of Turkish Super Lig side Kasimpasa, ordered his team to concede a goal out of respect for the 'concept of fair play'.

In last week’s Kasimpasa-Konyaspor match, the visitors (Konyaspor) had stopped playing because of an injury to one of their players in the 19th minute. Ryan Donk of Kasimpasa took advantage of this and scored.

Arveldadze immediately instructed his players to step aside and grant an open net for the equalizer to the opposite team, allowing Hasan Kabze to walk through unchallenged and score.

Arveladze's team went on to lose the game 2-1 but the football fans assessed his decision as "the right thing to do” and "true class and madness all the same”.

In the aftermath, Arveladze announced his resignation after two and a half years in the job.

"I do not want to talk about this situation. Anyone would make the same decision as me", he told reporters after the game.

"I decided to make this choice because this is what Kasimpasa really are. I talked with my guys after the match and told them that I'm going to resign. Thank you very much to everybody in the club."
