Georgia's capital Tbilisi has been named by an international online magazine among a list of 53 beautiful cities everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime.
Online magazine Architecture & Design suggested a list of 53 cities across the globe, which it believed were worth visiting.
Tbilisi ranked 31st in the list.
With a quarter of Georgia’s population, Tbilisi is believed by some tourism professionals to be "the beating heart of the South Caucasus” and "should not be missed by any visitor”.
The city lies in the centre of eastern Georgia, in the foothills of the Trialeti mountain range.
The Legend
According to Georgian legends, Tbilisi was founded in the 5th Century by King Vakhtang Gorgasali who, while hunting, shot a pheasant which fell into a warm spring and was either boiled or healed.
Either way, the King was inspired to establish a city on the site, and the name of the city derives from the Georgian word "tbili” meaning "warm".
