The President of Georgia will pay a one-day visit to Ukraine this week to participate in a special event dedicated to the victims of the Maidan protests in Kiev, Ukraine.

President Giorgi Margvelashvili and a Georgian delegation will join other international officials in the ‘March of Dignity’ on February 22 in Kiev. The event will commemorate those who died during last year’s Maidan protests.

Event organisers said the march would be held in connection with the anniversary of the protests in Ukraine, which was officially noted as the Dignity Revolution.

Last year about 100 demonstrators and 20 police officers were killed in the crackdown against protesters in Kiev.

The march will start at European Square near Gruschevskogo St, where the first protesters were killed.

Family members, injured Maidan activists and representatives of the Church and various international organisations are due to take part in the march, which will finish with a prayer service at Independence (Maidan) Square.
