Leader of the Georgian Dream (GD) coalition Zviad Kvachantiradze believes Georgia’s current Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgi Kvirikashvili is "one of the top candidates” who could become the new Prime Minister of Georgia.
When speaking about Irakli Garibashvili’s unexpected resignation as Prime Minister, Kvachantiradze said current Foreign Minister Kvirikashvili was a strong candidate but there were "some other candidates” who could be nominated by the majority to fill the now-vacant Prime Minister’s post.
In front of local media Kvachantiradze stressed Garibashvili’s decision to step down confirmed the current state leadership had never been "obsessed with job titles”.
Our foreign colleges, half seriously half humorously, say we are giving them lessons in democracy,” Kvachantiradze said.

Even though Garibashvili officially announced his resignation this evening, he would remain an "integral part” of the GD coalition, stressed Kvachantiradze.
According to the Georgian Constitution, when a Prime Minister resigns the majority has seven days to name a new candidate for Prime Minister.
