A month-long celebration of Georgian culture is underway in Poland to raise awareness of Georgia’s unique history and its people.

The exhibition opened at the Warsaw State Ethnographic Museum on December 11. The opening evening focused on the history of the three ancient types of Georgian alphabet and their unique origins, while the wider event will also present samples of Georgian national costumes and pieces of mosaic art.

The costumes displayed at the event included dresses used by the Sukhishvilebi Georgian National Ballet troupe in their performances while the mosaic works were presented by the Tbilisi-based Blue Rhomb workshop artist Tamta Alkhazashvili.

Organised by Georgia's Embassy to Poland and titled The Living Culture of the Three Types of Georgian Alphabet, the opening event was attended by public officials, culture and science figures and local Georgian emigrants.

Formal addresses were delivered by Georgia's Ambassador to Poland Nikoloz Nikolozishvili and Warsaw State Ethnographic Museum director Adam Czyżewski, after which guests were able to taste Georgian wine and traditional sweets.

The event is being supported by Georgia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation. It will continue until January 10.
