The Pasauri-Gudauri motorway has been partly reopened to cars after the road was earlier blocked by heavy snow.

Main specialist of Georgia’s Road Department Zaza Agulashvili said the section might be completely opened by the end of the day.

"We  have transported all individuals who were stuck on the road because of the extremely bad weather. Cleaning activities on the road is expected to be finalized by the end of the day,” Agulashvili said.

Meanwhile the situation remains complicated in Ninotsminda region at the Georgia-Armenia border, where people were stuck in cars on the road due to a storm and heavy snow.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs said about 100 cars had been recovered after being blanketed in snow and transferred to a safe place. Everyone who were stuck in snow - more than 200 men - had also been safely evacuated from their cars and given safe shelter.

Alongside local rescue teams, more force has been sent to the region from Tbilisi to give aid. Work is ongoing at the site and is complicated due to stormy weather there.

Heavy snow in some regions of Georgia has seen all state services been put on emergency alert recently.
