A European Union (EU) delegation has positively assessed Georgia’s efforts to fulfil its obligations since the country signed the Association Agreement (AA) with the EU last year.

The second meeting of the EU-Georgia Association Committee was held in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi today to address Georgia-EU trade and economic relations.

The meeting was composed of Georgian and EU representatives, and the discussion focused on the rate of fulfilling the obligations Georgia had taken, particularly in terms of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), as part of the AA deal.

The DCFTA covered trade of goods between Georgia and EU states and aimed to facilitate economic ties between Georgia and wider Europe.

Today the Commission discussed the process of fulfilling the AA-DCFTA obligations from the Georgian side, in particular, steps taken to support better customs service and trade, protecting of intellectual property, energy-related issues, existing technical obstacles in trade, public procurements, service trade, sanitary and phytosanitary situations, competition, trade and sustainable development topics.

The EU officials were provided with detailed information concerning these issues, Georgia’s Ministry of Economy said.

In response, the EU representatives positively assessed Georgia's efforts to fulfill it's obligations, the Ministry added.
