Belgium, Georgia strengthen economic and political ties

Belgium will be Georgia’s partner in the process of Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Belgium’s Foreign Minister Didier Reynders confirmed his country’s support for Georgia when he met his Georgian counterpart Giorgi Kvirikashvili earlier today.

The two officials discussed a wide range of political and economic issues and ways of deepening trade relations between Georgia and Belgium. Afterward their official meeting they announced a group of businessmen from Belgium would pay a visit to Georgia to boost bilateral trade cooperation.
"This will be a visit where, apart from political issues, attention will be paid to developing trade, encouraging investments and bilateral relations between the two countries,” Reynders said.
"This will be open dialogue about a wide range of topics including effective governance.”
He also said Belgium would support Georgia as the country sought integration into the European Union (EU) and NATO.
Meanwhile Belgium’s Foreign Minister reconfirmed his country’s firm support towards Georgia’s territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
Georgia’s Foreign Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has met High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini today in Brussels, Belgium.
European Council President Donald Tusk thinks it is possible for Georgians to travel without visas to European Union (EU) countries in 2016.
Georgia has introduced its business and investment environment to members of the Belgian business society to encourage them to invest in Georgia.
Georgia’s investment environment, implemented economic reforms and future cooperation prospects were the focus of a meeting between Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Richard Weber, president of Eurochambres.
Belgium has reviewed its asylum system and for the first time awarded Georgia the status of ‘Safe Country of Origin’, meaning Georgia is now regarded as a safe country and it meets top international standards of law and judicial requirements.
The State Minister for Asylum, Migration and Administrative Simplification of Belgium Theo Francken has arrived in Georgia to discuss migration and several related issues with state officials of Georgia.
