Tbilisi flood: Georgian Gov’t funds rehabilitation of 66 damaged houses

More than one million GEL will be spent on rehabilitating 66 houses in Georgia’s capital that were damaged in the deadly flood on June 13.
This was decided at yesterday’s City Council (Sakrebulo) meeting.
The rehabilitation works will be carried out on several streets in capital Tbilisi’s Saburtalo district, including Digomi village where houses were damaged after the Digmula River swelled.
"The rehabilitation will begin in nearest future,” said Saburtalo district governor Beka Mikautadze.
"The rehabilitation projects will be designed and the works will start immediately. The rainy season is coming and first of all we need to re-roof the houses so they are not further damaged,” he said.
The homes of about 400 people from 80 families suffered some kind of damage in the Tbilisi flood.
One positive thing to emerge from the disaster is when Tbilisi Zoo reopens it will be home to several new monkeys, who will be sent here from abroad. Other animals will also join Tbilisi Zoo as soon as new, open-air cages are constructed on the Zoo’s territory.
Exactly two months have passed since Georgia’s capital Tbilisi was hit by a deadly flash flood, which turned out to be the city’s worst human and infrastructural disaster in years.
The Black Sea Trade & Development Bank (BSTDB) has donated $50,000 to the Tbilisi flood relief fund to help Tbilisi Zoo and the affected residential area recover from the devastating flood on June 13.
One of the biggest bands on the planet has contributed almost $40,000 USD to help Tbilisi recover from the devastating flood that caused immense damage to the capital city last month.
The people of Hungary are honouring the memory of the victims of the disastrous June 13 flood in Tbilisi, which caused the deaths 23 people.
Tbilisi City Hall is allocating more than half million GEL to restore and rehabilitate the traffic tunnel at the Vera Ravine, which was severely damaged in the devastating Tbilisi flood on June 13, 2015.
