Top European sporting figures praise Tbilisi

Leading European sporting officials are congratulating Tbilisi for hosting such a grand opening ceremony of the Summer European Youth Olympic Festival.

Several top sporting officials, including President of the European Olympic Committee Patrick Hickey, European Athletics President Svein Arne Hansen and vice president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Sergey Bubka, attended the opening ceremony in Tbilisi on Sunday evening, and afterwards praised local organisers for hosting such a magnificent event.

Hansen said: "From what I have seen in the last few days in preparation for the European Youth Olympic Festival and tonight at the Opening Ceremony, I am confident the event will be great success and I want to congratulate those responsible.”

"It is very encouraging for us [that] the Athletics Federation of Georgia, under the leadership of President Alex Akhvlediani, will organise the inaugural European Athletics Youth Championships in 2016 in the host city of Tbilisi.”

The European Youth Olympic Festival in Tbilisi will encompass 11 competitions and five training venues, all of which are located approximately 25-35 minutes’ drive from the Athletes Village at Tbilisi Sea.

Official applications have been created for those who want to get up-to-date information about the competition on their mobile devices. The app details the schedule and venue of competitions and also shows a map of how to get to the venue, as well as results of the competitions and much more.
