Farmers and fruit growers in Georgia's eastern Kakheti region are preparing for a fruitful peach season.
About 7,000 tonnes of peaches have already been collected in the region. Of this, 700 tonnes have been exported while the rest of the crops were bound for local markets.
The Ministry of Agriculture said this year it expected approximately 23,000 peach crops in Kakheti.
"This fruit is freely exported to Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Belarus,” the Ministry said.
"All the technical procedures related to peach export are carried out with the single window principle.”
This meant a special headquarters was created to help locals distribute their products. If farmers cannot sell their goods, they can address the headquarters and deliver their crops to them, who will then on-sell the products on their behalf.
