PM supports 105 Georgian athletes at Baku European Games

Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has touched down in Azerbaijan to support Georgian athletes at the first ever European Games in the capital city Baku. 

More than a hundred Georgian athletes will compete in the inaugural competition across 17 sports from June 12-28. The Georgian athletes are among the 6,000 athletes from 50 countries who will participate in the first European Games, which will reveal the best athletes across 20 sports.

The Prime Minister shared some news with his followers on his official Twitter account:

Accompanied by his two sons, Nikoloz and Andria, PM Garibashvili will attend the opening ceremony of the Games tomorrow, June 12.

The head of the Georgian Government visited the Athletes Village to show his support for the 105 Georgian participants of the European Games.

Everyone is aiming towards victory and I arrived with other members of Cabinet to cheer up Georgian athletes and to wish all of them good luck. Each win will be a proud moment for the whole country and will be a victory for Georgia. I am sure we will win,” said Garibashvili after spending time at the Village.

Earlier today Garibashvili met the president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The leaders discussed the future relations between the two countries and underlined the meaning of the first European Games for the development of international cooperation. Since 1997, Aliyev has been the president of the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan.

The press office of the Georgian Prime Minister said the heads of governments also spoke about regional and energy safety and negotiated to deepen collaboration in economy, culture, energy and political spheres.
