Georgia is offering financial aid to Nepal to help the country recover after a devastating earthquake that claimed lives of more than 8,800 people and injured more than 23,000.
A Government decree, which was signed by the Prime Minister of Georgia, stated Georgia would offer $50,000 USD (112,761 GEL) financial support to Nepal to help the country rebuild after the April disaster.
"With the aim of alleviating the damage caused by the natural disaster that occurred in April 2015 in Nepal, Georgia’s Finance Ministry will allocate $50,000 US dollars equivalent GEL financial assistance to Georgia’s Foreign Ministry from the Reserve Fund to financially assist Nepal,” the decree stated.
A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Nepal on April 25 and devastated much of the country’s capital Kathmandu, and triggered a deadly avalanche on nearby Mount Everest shortly after. Aftershocks were felt for several weeks after the earthquake struck, including a massive aftershock of 7.3 magnitude on May 12.
Official sources noted no Georgian citizens were among the victims of the catastrophe.
