A group of Georgian soldiers have returned home after eight months military service in Afghanistan.

In Afghanistan, the Reinforced Platoon of the 13th Battalion of I Infantry Brigade of the Georgian Armed Forces had been taking part in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission at the Phoenix base, in the Kandahar province. The mission was being led by US command and the main task of the Georgian troops was to provide security at the base.

The peacekeeping unit of the 13th Battalion replaced the reinforced platoon of the same battalion. The official replacement ceremony was held at the Phoenix base about a week ago.

The ISAF mission is a NATO-led security mission in Kabul, Afghanistan. Georgia is currently the largest non-NATO troop contributor to the international mission.
