The European Parliament resolution makes Georgia’s eventual goal to become EU member state tangible, Georgia’s Foreign Minister says.

Minister Maia Panjikidze welcomed the resolution and said acknowledging Georgia’s European perspective was of particular significance.

She claimed this was the first time Georgia had been mentioned in the context of Article 49 of the Treaty on European Union.

The EP resolution issued on April 17 said pursuant to Article 49 of the Treaty on European Union, "Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine – like any other European state – have a European perspective and may apply to become members of the Union provided that they adhere to the principles of democracy, respect fundamental freedoms and human and minority rights and ensure the rule of law.”
