A joint project to study solar activities has been launched by NASA and the Georgian National Astrophysical Observatory.

The common project, titled Varsit, will allow scientists to make important predictions how the solar processes may affect the earth. The sun will be observed by the satellites.

Almost 50 countries are engaged in the project that will be accomplished in five years and will be managed by NASA Scientific Committee representatives.

Georgian National Astrophysical Observatory (GENAO), earlier named as Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory, was founded in 1932 by Academic Eugene Kharadze in Abastumani, small town in the mountainous region of South-East Georgia.
