Historical Georgian manuscripts have been preserved at the National Centre of Manuscripts after being turned into digital copies.

The ancient pieces of work were digitized within the project titled ‘Digitalization of the originals historical documents and databases’.

As part of the project, a special database program was created which allows users to search for people and geographical places mentioned in the historical documents.

"It is also possible to determine the writer of the document as well as confirm its correctness,” announced the press office of the Supreme Court.

"Within the database you can see various details including the date of the writing, the size, materials used, inks, and spelling defined in the document,” the press office said.

Within the project 5,000 historical documents preserved the National Center of Manuscripts and transferred to a digital format, which will ensure the ancient documents are safely protected.

The project was implemented with support of the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s State Ministry on Diaspora Issues plan to digitalize Georgian manuscripts preserved in the Oxford and Cambridge libraries in the United Kingdom.
