"All Georgians that are now dispersed in different corners of the world must know that the door to their homeland is wide open for them,” Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced in New York at a meeting with Georgian diaspora representatives.
At the same time, Georgia’s premiere strongly stressed that his desire was for Georgian people to have the opportunity to serve in their homeland and unlock their potential in their own country.
"For several years I lived in Europe, far away from my homeland, and I know perfectly well how precious each piece of news is, every single word which reaches your ears from your native land in a foreign country among foreign people. I vividly remember how happy I was to hear of my country’s success, it picked me up, and how worried I was for its failures,” he said in his opening remarks.
Garibashvili introduced the visions of the new Government to the gathered audience and noted the Government was accountable and responsible towards its own people and in order to cater to their compatriot’s needs, the Government had passed large-scale reforms in the health and social sectors.
"We are looking for ways to find money to send our youth to leading Universities around the world so they can expand their knowledge and refine their skills. We do need a modern, highly qualified generation that will be competitive in the world market,” Garibashvili said.
"America is a country where dreams come true … but in spite of this I want every Georgian to know that door to our country is always wide open for them. I wish that you could use your abilities in your own country,” he added.
The meeting with the Georgian diaspora was also attended by the Georgian delegation who are taking part in the US official visit – The State Minister for Diaspora Issues Kote Surguladze, Minister of Foreign Affairs Maia Panjikidze, her Deputy Minister David Zalkaliani, State Minister on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Alex Petriashvili, Minister of Economy Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Georgian Ambassador in USA Archil Gegeshidze.
