Five Georgian films are being showcased over the next ten days at a special Georgian film exhibition in Italy.

The film festival, titled "Fermenti Georgiani” (Brew Georgian’s) is being held at the Teatro Valle in Rome, Italy.

In total, five Georgian films will be presented in the festival, which will end on March 2.

The exhibition opened with the premier of the film "Chantrapas”, by famous Georgian film director Otar Iosseliani. This was his latest work.

The film is about a young artist named Nicolas - a filmmaker who merely wants to express himself and whom everyone wishes to reduce to silence. When he first starts out in Georgia, the "ideologists" hope to gag him, as they are concerned his work does not follow the set rules. In the face of their determination, Nicolas leaves his homeland for France - the land of freedom and democracy. But the "state of grace" will not last long.

Iosseliani’s film was presented at the Teatro Valle by well-known Italian writer and film critic Enrico Ghezzi.

As well as this, four other Georgian films will be showcased at the festival. These are: That Makes Everything Disappear by Tinatin Gurchiani, In Bloom (Grdzeli Nateli Dgeebi) by Nana Ekvtimishvili, Smile (Gaigime) by Rusudan Chkonia and The Other Bank (Gagma Napiri) by George Ovashvili.

On February 27, the Georgian film festival will host a reception where invited guests will have the opportunity to taste Georgian cuisine and wine.

A panel discussion on the opportunities that may arise from the production shot in Georgia will take place on Saturday March 1, at 5pm. The panel will address operators in the audio-visual sector and will be attended by the President of the Georgian National Film Center (GNFC) Nana Janelidze and other GNFC representatives.

The meeting will illustrate the possible advantages offered to those who decide to shoot their films in Georgia and the modalities of co-production agreements between Italy and Georgia.

On March 2, on the closing day of the festival, the Italian audience will have an opportunity to get acquainted with Georgian folk songs, which will be performed by Georgian diaspora.

The exhibition "Georgian Ferment" is sponsored by the Embassy of Georgia in Italy, the Ministry of Culture of Georgia, the Georgian National Film Center with the support of the Milan Film Festival and the collaboration of GIS turnover Italian - Georgian Trade Association and Teatro Valle.
