Government-initiated Solidarity Fund has fully funded medical treatment of 48 seriously ill children since its establishment in August 2014.
The Fund was created following a proposal of the Prime Minister, which aimed to allow the public and private sector to collaborate to mobilise financial resources and direct them towards priority social needs.
It was being financed through voluntary donations from public sector employees to help ease hardships of ill patients under the age of 18.
Due to the international solidarity day celebrated in the world on December 20, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili sent a letter to all public sector employees, who make donations in the Solidarity fund and thanked them for their contributions yesterday.
"We have been united by a noble goal - a battle for saving life! It was your support that made the full funding of 48 seriously ill children's treatment possible. This is a result of our unity and solidarity. This important initiative will bring even more benefit to our community in the future. I believe, we will save more human lives and bring peace and happiness,” the letter read.
"Georgia marks The International Day of Solidarity together with the whole world today. Solidarity is one of the main values of the humankind and I am very happy that last year we all together, the whole society, and each of you personally showed this example,” Garibashvili said.
