The United States (US) State Department believes the ratification of the European Union (EU)-Georgia Association Agreement (AA) by European Parliament was "another important milestone” in Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration.

"The United States congratulates Georgia on European Parliament’s ratification today of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement. [Today’s] vote of support by hundreds of European parliamentarians in Strasbourg marks yet another important milestone in Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration. The vote demonstrates Europe’s growing confidence in Georgia and the country’s continued pursuit of wide-ranging reforms,” said US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki yesterday.

She said the US stood with the EU in their support of Georgia as it pursued various reforms and the country realized its integration into Europe and the wider Euro-Atlantic community.

Members of European Parliament backed the AA by 490 votes in favour to 76 against, with 57 abstentions today, December 18.
