European Parliament will ratify AA on December 18

The Parliament also plans to adopt a resolution on Georgia prepared based on a report by Speaker Andrejs Mamikins.

The European Parliament will ratify the Association Agreement (AA) between Georgia and the European Union (EU) next week.

European Parliament published its agenda for its plenary session, planned for December 15-21. The timetable marked a joint debate over Georgia, which included ‘Conclusion of the Association Agreement with Georgia’ for December 18.

In addition, the Parliament planned to adopt a resolution on Georgia prepared based on a report by Speaker Andrejs Mamikins.

European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee voted for the ratification of Georgia’s AA and adoption of the resolution about Georgia at its November 17 plenary session.

The resolution stated that European Parliament supported Georgia’s steps taken to regulate relations with Russia, called on Russia to respect Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and urged Russia to withdraw its recognition of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) as independent countries.

In addition, the resolution said European Parliament welcomed the Georgia’s judicial reforms and underlined that all three branches of power must be effectively separated and all prosecutions be transparent, proportionate and free from political motivation.
