Two Georgian films have been approved for Golden Globe consideration in the Foreign Language category.

The Foreign Film Committee of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) named Corn Island and Tangerines among 51 other motion pictures to challenge for the coveted Award.

Corn Island, locally directed and internationally produced drama film, is an almost wordless story about an aging farmer and his granddaughter pitted against nature and a lingering ethnic conflict. The film was submitted by Georgia to be nominated in the Foreign Language Film category.

Meanwhile, the Georgian-Estonian co-production Tangerines, a war-time drama, was nominated by Estonia.

Since the day both films were released, they have individually won a number of prestigious international awards at numerous film festivals. The Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled for February 22 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

In order to qualify for foreign language consideration, a film must have at least 51 percent of its dialogue in a language other than English, must be released in its country or countries (in case of co-production) of origin between November 1, 2013, and December 31, 2014, and it must have an official screening for HFPA voting members.
