Georgia’s former Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili has requested a lie detector test in a bid to confirm his statement that he was taken out jail.

Merabishvili is currently on trial for an incident at a peaceful demonstration on Rustaveli St, on May 26, 2011.

"I am ready to undergo a lie detector test to confirm my truth of the story,” Merabishvili said.

"Neither Subari (former Minister of Correction and Legal Assistance), nor Partskhaladze (former Chief Prosecutor) are able to dare it. I am ready and I hope that the Chief Prosecutor’s Office will allow it.”

According to Merabishvili, about 1:30am on Saturday, December 14, he was taken out of his prison cell with his head covered by his own jacket and was taken to an unknown location which he thinks was a department of the penitentiary system.

Merabishvili said that Chief Prosecutor Partskhaladze was in the room and asked him to assist the investigation to help solve the case about ex-PM Zurab Zhvanias. He was also told to provide information about ex-President Mikheil Saakashvilis bank accounts. If he did not comply, his prison conditions would deteriorate and his friends would be arrested.
