Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance starts the inspection on Merabishvili’s accusation

Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance has started an internal inspection regarding the announcement of Vano Merabishvili.

"On December 20, on behalf of the Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance, considering the high public interest, general inspection of the Ministry started an internal probe based on the application of lawyer David Khazalia. On the fact of presumable misconduct by the employees of #9 Institution of Department of Corrections towards the prisoner Ivane Merabishvili, " says the announcement of the Ministry.

The former prime minister and ex-minister of internal affairs Vano Merabishvili claimed the Chief Prosecutor Otar Partskhaladze of using pressure and threats against him. Merabishvili said that Partskhaladze asked him to help the investigation to solve the ex-PM Zurab Zhvanias case, and also to provide the information about ex-President Mikheil Saakashvilis bank accounts, otherwise Merabishvilis conditions in prison would deteriorate, and his friends would be arrested.

According to Merabishvili,  he was taken out of his prison cell with his head covered with his own jacket and was taken to the location which he thinks was a department of the penitentiary system.
