United States Secretary of the Army visits Georgia

The United States Secretary of the Army, John McHugh, has arrived in Tbilisi for a two-day official visit.

The US Secretary of the Army is a senior civilian official with the US Department of Defence with statutory responsibility for all matters relating to the US Army.

While in Georgia, McHugh will meet Georgia’s Minister of Denfence Irakli Alasania. The sides are expected to discuss how the two countries cooperate in terms of defence as well as future collaboration.

How the US will support Georgia implement the substantial package it was offered at the NATO Summit in Wales, held earlier this month, will also be heavily discussed, the Ministry’s press office said.

Meanwhile tomorrow the American visitor will visit the Davit Agmashenebeli National Defence Academy. He is also scheduled to participate in a wreath laying ceremony held at the memorial of the Georgian heroes who died while protecting Georgia’s territorial integrity.

The US Secretary of the Army will end his official visit to Georgia on September 22.
