The President of Georgia has been invited to attend a United Nations Climate Change Summit in New York.

President Giorgi Margvelashvili will join other world leaders, Government delegations, and global representatives in finance, business and public sectors to discuss global climate change.

The September Summit will serve as a public platform for leaders to become catalysts for ambitious action at ground level to reduce emissions, strengthen climate resilience and mobilise political will for a global legal agreement by 2015.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon invited President Margvelashvili to attend the September 23 event.

Ki-Moon asked Margvelashvili to bring bold and creative ideas to the Summit that would reduce emissions and strengthen climate resilience and encourage others to commit to the cause.

President Margvelashvili has already confirmed he would participate in the Summit.
