UNWTO: Georgia is “rising star” in tourism industry

Georgia has been named as a "rising star in the tourism industry by the World Tourism Organisation.

The Country has been elected as Vice-President of the Committee on Statistics and the Tourism Satellite Account.

The country was elected for this position at the Committees 14th meeting in Madrid, Spain. The host country was elected as President of the Committee at the same meeting.

The Committee consists of 12 member countries and is subsidiary advisory body of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Executive Council.

The World Tourism Organisation is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism.

Georgia became a Committee member in 2011.

"Being a committee member is extremely honorable, the Georgian National Tourism Administration claimed.

"This position helps us to implement international tourism statistical experience in Georgia, the Administration stated.

The meeting was opened with a speech by the UNWTO Secretary General, Taleb Rafai. He highlighted Georgias positive international tourism trends and called the country the "rising star.

Last year, the UNWTOs report World Tourism Barometer said Georgia had the highest number of increasing international visitors in Europe.
