More than 500,000 vote in municipal elections by 12pm

More than 500,000 voters have already had their say in the 2014 municipal elections.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) estimated by 12pm, 16.7 percent of eligible voters nationwide had taken part in today’s Elections of Representative and Executive Bodies of Local Municipalities.

Current voter turnout rates meant 571,123 voters had already cast their ballot by midday out of the 3,429,748 registered voters, said CEC spokesperson Eka Arazashvili.

The western Racha-Lechkumi region saw the highest turnout of 30.8 percent, while the lowest 12.8 percent of registered voters in the capital Tbilisi voted in the elections.

Voter turnout of the Presidential election in 2013 by noon was 17.15 percent and 20 percent in the previous local elections in May 2010.
