Creating a fund to benefit socially vulnerable people was on the agenda at today’s Government meeting.

The concept of the Social Solidarity Fund was prepared by the Government Administration and the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia and was discussed by Ministers today.

The Solidarity Fund would serve to mobilize financial resources from the public and private sectors and allocate them to priority social needs, said deputy head of the Government Administration Nino Kobakhidze at a press conference after the meeting.

Donations to the Fund were voluntary for employees of private and public sectors and local companies, she said.

"The aim of the Fund is to include a solidarity mechanism into solving social problems. In addition, it is very important for civic integration and mutual cooperation of social groups for the formation of solidary community, and increased social responsibility of the private sector,” Kobakhidze said.

In the first stage of works, the Fund would be oriented on the needs of citizens with the most socially vulnerable conditions.

Kobakhidze said a working group had been created by the decision of the Government and would present an Action Plan within 45 days that details of the Fund.

Deputy Minister of Health Mariam Jashi will lead the working group, which also consisted of Kobakhidze and the Deputy Minister of Justice, Finance and Economy Ministries.

The work of the Social Solidarity Fund will be overseen by a Supervisory Board, which will be led by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
