Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili is leaving Germany with renewed confidence the European Union (EU) is supportive of Georgia and its path towards EU integration.
Today, Garibashvili said his visit proved once again that the EU, and personally European Commission President Herman Van Rompuy, "firmly supported” Georgia. He emphasized German Chancellor Angela Merkel also showed unwavering support to Georgia in his summary of his two-day working visit.
The PM said at yesterday’s meeting with Merkel, the leaders of three European countries - Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova – talked for "a long time and discussed interesting issues”.
"Germany has a desire to renew and strengthen relations with our country,” Garibashvili said.
"Unfortunately, for some time, our mutual relationship paused [and] a vacuum existed in our relations.”
The Georgian PM said he now felt Georgia had renewed support, particularly from Germany and Merkel.
Today was Garibashvili’s final day in Germany after a two day working visit. On June 2 he is scheduled to return to Germany for an official visit. On this occasion he will be accompanied by Georgian Government members and the larger group will hold meetings in an expanded format.
The PM said a business forum was due to be held during his next visit to Germany, where the German side would have the opportunity to learn about Georgia’s investment potential.
