Raising the quality of tertiary education is one of the main priorities of the Georgian Government, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili says.

The PM spent time at a conference at the Sheraton Metekhi Palace Hotel in Tbilisi today, dedicated to a Ministry of Education and Science initiative to fund students who present scientific projects relevant to the current environment.

"Such programs give students a unique opportunity to engage in international research and develop a professional network. I am very happy that by attending summer and winter schools, you have the opportunity to listen to lectures and seminars of foreign professors and be introduced to the experience of foreign countries in various fields.

"Moreover, you get to establish a network of contacts for future cooperation. I am confident that winter and summer schools will enhance your skills and qualification.” Garibashvili said in his speech.

He added the Government-led project contributed to improving the country’s education system to get it closer to European models.

"It is also very important that this project also foresees regional cooperation, relationship with neighbouring countries and communication of youth. The Ministry of Education and Science implemented this program last year and I hope that this tradition will continue and raising the quality of education will be promoted,” he said.

Today’s conference was attended by the Minister of Education and Science Tamar Sanikidze and Professor of Bremen University Kasil Smidt.

Minister Sanikidze spoke about the importance of the project and focused on the engagement within regions. She noted Armenian, Azerbaijanian, Turkish students, as well as professors of leading European and American universities, also participated in the program.

Sanikidze also said educational materials created in these schools will be distributed and used in the learning process.

The Ministry said this project would continue in the future.
