Special restrictions imposed on the Rikoti pass

Because of the intense snow, new restrictions were imposed for the traffic on the Rikoti pass.
On the Chumateli-Zestaponi section, traffic is only allowed with anti-skid tire chains. Transports and semi-trailers, as well as vehicles with the capacity of more than 30 seats are prohibited.
Due to heavy snow, a 50 kilometer section of the Khashuri-Akhaltsikhe-Vale motorway is also prohibited for transports and semi-trailers. All other vehicles are allowed. Traffic on all other sections of the motorway is open for all vehicles.
According to the National Environmental Agency, the snowfall will last all day long in Western Georgia and the wind will strengthen in the Eastern part of the country. However, the weather is likely to improve from December 17.
