The Asian Development Bank (ADB), a regional development bank that facilitates economic development of countries in Asia, approved 98 million USD for rehabilitation of Georgias water supply system.
The allocated loan will be used for the rehabilitation of water supply systems in Kutaisi, the Parliamentary capital city in Western part of Georgia and construction of a water canal plant in Ureki, a touristic zone on the Black Sea.
The loan will be partially used to purchase equipment, including machinery for cleaning sewage and laboratory equipment for the United Water Supply Company that provides water and wastewater treatment services throughout Georgia for urban settlements.
According to United Water Supply Companys latest data, the water supply schedule has improved in the Kutaisi over the last year. In 2011, only 11% of the population in Kutaisi had water for 24 hours a day and 83% of the population was supplied with water for five-to-seven hours a day. This figure has lowered since 2010.
