Georgian judoka Eteri Liparteliani wins gold at Grand Slam Tbilisi

Georgian judoka Eteri Liparteliani claimed a gold medal in the -57 kg category at the Judo Grand Slam Tbilisi 2024, hosted in Georgia’s capital, the country’s Sports Ministry said on Friday.

The Georgian judoka defeated her Canadian counterpart Jessica Klimkait in the final and celebrated the victory in the tournament for the first time in her career.

Liparteliani competed against Natalia Elkina, a judoka competing as a neutral athlete, and Belgian Mina Libeer before the finals. She also defeated her Serbian rival Marica Perisic, a winner of last year’s tournament, in the quarterfinals and beat her opponent from Slovenia, Kaja Kajzer in semi-finals.

She also competed in the final of the Grand Slam Tbilisi 2021, winning a silver medal at the competition.

Tbilisi hosted the tournament for the fourth time from March 22 to March 24, featuring judokas from 83 countries.
