The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia on Wednesday arrested one individual for fraudulently obtaining a large sum of money, forgery and use of fake official documents.
The Office said its investigation had shown the offender’s company, Royal Tab Group, had signed a ₾523,500 ($197,558) contract with Nadzaladevi district administration in the capital city of Tbilisi for the construction of bearing walls.
The company director and lawyer then attempted to obtain an advance amount specified by the contract, with the lawyer submitting a false statement to the administration under the company name New Vision Insurance, receiving an advance of ₾157,000 ($59,248) from state funds.
Only a portion of the funds was used for construction works, with the remaining ₾98,000 ($36,983) appropriated by the offenders, who also produced and filed ₾45,000 ($16,982) in false acceptance and handover acts and other documents showing the performance of works, the Office added.
The body said the director of the offending company had been arrested following a court ruling, while the search for the company lawyer - on charges involving six to nine years in prison - had been launched.
