The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged an individual for embezzlement of ₾61,200 ($22,666) from citizens of the country using fraudulent tour services via a travel agency, the state body said on Wednesday.
The Office said its investigation had found the offender had used a travel agency to offer their targets tours abroad, before embezzling the sum from them.
Arrested on Monday for the crime, the alleged offender is set to face up to nine years in prison.
The Office also noted it would ask the court to set preventive detention against the arrested while the Ministry of Internal Affairs continued to investigate the case to detect “potential further illegal activity and involvement”.
