The Investigation Service of Georgia’s Finance Ministry has charged two individuals for manufacturing and using forged tax and official documents, the state body announced on Tuesday.

The Service said its investigation had found the offenders had produced fake documents on behalf of companies under their management and signed false contracts with one another on construction works worth ₾2.2 million ($847,079) to create a false VAT asset required by state procurement requirements.

They then created forms confirming the non-performed works, acceptance and handover acts and tax invoices, creating ₾226,496 ($85,805) in false VAT asset for a company.

The asset was “completely annulled” during the body’s investigation into the case, with the crime punishable by four to seven years in prison.
