The Investigation Service of Georgia’s Ministry of Finance on Tuesday said its professionals had arrested a foreign citizen for attempted smuggling of a “particularly large” quantity of diamonds into the country.
The Service said its investigation had found the offender attempted to illegally carry ₾46,029 ($17,603) in diamond stones of various sizes and qualities, as well as a golden ring, through a customs crossing.
The crime is punishable by imprisonment for between five to seven years.
