Georgia’s border police arrest two foreign citizens for illegal border crossing attempt

The Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia on Saturday arrested two individuals for an attempt of illegal crossing of the state border through the Kartsakhi customs checkpoint in the south of the country.
Two Iranian citizens were arrested while attempting to avoid “border control procedures” in order to cross the border in the direction of Turkey, the body said.
The offence is punishable up to five years in prison.
The Investigation Service of Georgia’s Ministry of Finance on Friday said its professionals had arrested a foreign citizen for smuggling a “particularly large” quantity of gold items into the country.
